Every Tuesday, on their way to the northern border, the Rejoice pick-up truck can be seen making a small detour, to deliver essential provisions to Mae Ho day care nursery.
The nursery is situated to the south of Chiang Dao town.
In 2015 the Thai government decreed that children under the age of 3 years should not be in a day care but at home looked after by their mother.
Thus, day care centres would only be supported by the government if the children were older than 3 years. This was a major blow especially for the migrant worker mothers who needed to work to earn a meagre existence to support their families.
Thanks to the local community and local land owners, it was decided to build a separate nursery for these babies. Financed by donations, a small day care nursery was quickly built and painted and decorated by the students from PREM International School. Mae Ho Nursery was created.
